With Bavaria and Dortmund, two great names have long since passed themselves from the Cup this year. On the paper RB Leipzig is the great favorite, which also sees national coach Hansi Flick, as he remembered as part of the semi-final draw.
The Saxons were then also given a home game. It goes against Union Berlin, which ranks only four points behind RB in the table of the Bundesliga. RB coach Domenico Tedesco knows that Union is “a really good team”. He knows he “not least because of the defeat in the first round (1: 2).” However, the 36-year-old is looking forward to the home game and explained Via Club Website that “we want to win in the finals of course.”
In contrast to RB, which after 2019 and 2021 could move into the Cup final for the third time, the Irishes want to reach the second final (2001) in their history. No easy undertaking, as managing director Oliver Ruhnert knows: “Surely the lot seems to be the hardest at the moment, but we will travel to Leipzig to give our best and grow over us.”
Incidentally, Union will play a few days after the Cup semi-finale right back in Leipzig, then in the context of the 31st Bundesliga playing day. For Tedesco, that’s already “a little curious”.
Home game for the HSV
Of the four semi-finalists, only the HSV won the trophy so far. This time the reds are outsiders, after all, they are the only remaining second division in the competition. However, the northern lights are allowed to look forward to a home game against Sc Freiburg. For the sports club, a series continues: they had to ran downwards in every trowel round in this season – no bad omen so.
The men’s semi-finals will be held on 19 and 20 April, the final rises on 21 May in Berlin.
Previous final in women?
The semifinals of women was also drawn – and that has it. So Master FC Bayern München receives defending champion VfL Wolfsburg for perhaps anticipated final. The second semifinal contest Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Turbine Potsdam. The semi-finals of women rise on the 17th and 18th of April, the final will take place on May 28 in Cologne.
