The German U17 soccer players started with a win in the European Championship in Israel. The team of coach Marc-Patrick Meister prevailed 3-2 (2-1) in the opening game in NES Ziona against Italy.

Tom Bischoff put the youth selection of the German Football Association in the 24th minute before Paul Werner (27th) added only three minutes later. But shortly before the break by Kevin Bruno (44th) and immediately after the restart by Alessandro Bolzan (48th), the Italians equalized before Dzenan Pejcinovic (56.) scored the winning goal for the German team.

Other opponents in the preliminary round are Luxembourg (4:30 p.m.) on Thursday and host Israel on Sunday (7:00 p.m.). The two best teams in the four groups of four reach the quarter -finals. The final will take place on June 1st in Netany.

The tournaments 2020 and 2021 in this age group were most recently canceled because of the corona pandemic. In 2018 and 2019, the German selection was eliminated in the European Championship preliminary round. The last German U17 title so far existed in 2009.
